The ubiquitous iPod

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

As seen in a vending machine(!) in the Dallas-Fort Worth airport.

With as much as a Snickers cost in the vending machines at the convention center in Vegas ($1.50), there wasn’t much sticker shock seeing a 4GB Nano iPod in a vending machine as well.

My, what large… hard drives you have!

I’m completing (I say this because it takes a while to format a 750GB hard drive) installation of an additional drive in my media server.

new server drives

Very few will be able to appreciate the above pic, but so be it! I’m now just shy of 2TB of formatted disc space. Less then that if you discount what is used to provide backup/redundancy.

Those dang 12-megapixel images (jpeg and RAW) take up a lot of space!

rss reader

I’ve long used Firefox’s live bookmarks to organize RSS feeds. And a while back I saw that the highly-regarded NetNewsWire was now free. So I finally decided to get with the program. A RSS reader is to the web what the podcast section of iTunes is to music. If you regularly visit sites that have RSS feeds (and use a Mac – though I’m sure there are excellent PC RSS readers as well), you should definitely check it out!

A couple things that have made my life better

Sometimes it’s the small things, and these recent additions to my arsenal of tools makes life just a little bit easer:

Gordy's wrist strap

I’ve been contemplating getting a wrist strap for my Canon G9 for a bit – it comes supplied with a neck strap, which is nice but doesn’t fit my style of use. I found a good quality one from a guy name Gordy (pictured above, and third down on this link, is me!). Nice thick leather. Nice product, great service, good price.

Also, I’ve been using a Tiddlywiki to organize some information at work. Pretty nice – a micro self-contained wiki, essentially. And with Tiddlyspot, I can access it from the web (in addition to my thumbdrive).
