It’s been a busy week. Here are some details that are either worth mentioning, or I just happen to have a pic of!

Tuesday morning before work (I went in late, more below) I went to pic up my replacement bike (for the stolen one – my CC did cover me). They told me it was in, but they still had to assemble it. So I went and waited for 30 minutes in the nearby park. Saw a good opportunity for a HDR pic:

After a nice little leisurely sit on a bench, I went back to the store, only for them to tell me that they actually got the wrong bike delivered, and would have to get a new correct one delivered. They said they’d have it in 3 hours, but I couldn’t wait. I’d come back… more after the jump.

I went into work late, because I was working late to set up for the second in two weeks of live broadcasts from the Village Vanguard. The show was sold out, as you can tell by the crowd waiting to get in:

Even for NYC, you don’t see that too often…

The next morning I went back to get my bike, now guaranteed to be there. On the way there I passed something you’re not likely to see many places:

That night was our broadcast from the Village Vanguard. On my way in, dodging some showers, I followed this SUV in. I got a laugh out of the licence plate. Specifically, what kind of plate it was. You’ll probably want to click on the pic for the bigger version to be able to read it.

Anyway, Brian Blade at the Vanguard was a great show. Hope you check it out. The next day (after getting home at 3am), we had a studio session with a video crew, recording pianist Aaron Parks. Good music there as well. It will eventually find a home on NPR.org/music as well.

Friday night we had a little grill out party on the rooftop deck of a friend of mine. But he only had a Smokey Joe, so I offered to bring mine as well, so we’d have enough grilling power. Packed ‘er up, complete with charcoal and chimney, chookies, chips, dip and brats and hit the road:

It was only about a 15 minute walk. Oh, we also brought some veggie kabobs to grill:

The friends have a nice cat that they allow up on the roof – even beyond the deck – with a leash. It’s four flights up:

That was Friday night. Saturday was a lot of work for me. And tomorrow, we hope to relax by getting up early and going into the city for a bike ride! Looking forward to it!

Dad

It’s always interesting to read about your life in Jersey. While reading your latest posting I’m sitting here in the lobby of the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in downtown Springfield, only two blocks away from the preserved four block area where Abraham Lincoln lived while working as a lawyer here in Springfield. Every time I’ve come here I’ve taken a walk back in time to stroll through that quiet section of yesteryear. It’s going on 11:00 PM here. Mom’s likely already in bed in our room on the 4th floor. I’m in the lobby where the wireless network is available. The 65th annual Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts conference is now history. After meeting here in downtown Springfield each of the past 8 Junes next year the conference moves to Peoria.

Anyway, Ma and I will hit the road in the morning to coast back up to Rockford. I have a reception for Rockford’s retired fire chief in the middle of the afternoon and a Christopher Makulec birthday party get together in the evening at UG’s/AM’s.

All the above is a bit of a drift away from your blog subject, so I’ll end by again letting you know how much I appreciate your life glimpses.
