Clouds over Lake Pontchartrain, NOLA

I’m in NOLA for a broadcast tonight (check it out!) but got just a little bit of free time, including a few minutes to sit by Lake Pontchartrain.
because what fun is the news that is?

I’m in NOLA for a broadcast tonight (check it out!) but got just a little bit of free time, including a few minutes to sit by Lake Pontchartrain.
Don’t have much to share from our trip up North – I spent a lot of time working. Which you can see some of the results of that here. But here are a couple photos from the 1.5 days of vacation we got. We did enjoy some good Ethiopian and Afghan food as well.

I’m up in Montreal helping make WBGO’s coverage of the jazz festival happen. Among other things I’m taking some photos of performances and such. Check out all the photos (so far – work continues as Adrienne and I try to fit in a vacation as well) here.
To keep up with Little D, here are some snaps from our lazy weekend, which included non-productive house shopping, some grilling, biking and general lazying-around.

Adrienne and I took a quick (Friday – Sunday) vacation and hung out in Philadelphia. Below is a brief photo re-cap (ha!).

Yeah, it didn’t always feel like vacation, what with all the stupid travel issues. But it was still nice to get away and see everyone. Hope your holidays were equally thrilling!

After a canceled flight, delayed flights, standbys and an excursion to Houston (Pythagoras was right: the shortest distance between two points is a straight line; unfortunately, we didn’t take it… on the upside, we can recommend Pappadeaux restaurant in the Houston airport), plus completely un-plowed roads in Portland and having to shovel the rental car out just to get it parked in the garage (thanks Valet guy), we’re here at a Kimpton Hotel in downtown Portland. We won’t make it to the coast, and we’re missing the big suitcase with most of Adrienne’s clothes (may still be in Houston at this moment), but we’re safe and sound. And really, that’s the important part.
My alarm went off at 4:30, so I’d have time to start the caramel rolls before we left the house at 5:30ish. Once we got into the city, we stopped by a deli for some breakfast sandwiches to go with our hot chocolate in a thermos. Got to our viewing area around 7am, and the crowd was pretty small. It filled out quite a bit in an hour’s time – by 8am we basically couldn’t move, though we had everyone from little stuck up, poorly-parented kids pushing through to elderly people hitting us with their bags. Fisticuffs almost broke out at one point between some definite Jersians; a fun time was had by all! We stayed for maybe half of it, then fought our way through the crowd to freedom. Enjoy the pics!
I went sans Adrienne to the balloon inflation held on the north and south sides of the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. They warned of crowds… yeah, I’ll say! It was still kinda cool to see. But I don’t think I’ll be going back. But, you can enjoy the pictures, after the jump. (more…)
