Update: The siding is from the side of the building adjacent to ours. See pic after the jump.
After the rain blew through today, we had quite a bit of wind- on my way back to WBGO after a remote broadcast, I saw a stoplight turn (it was a horizontal one mounted to a pole) nearly 45-degrees. I’m not sure that made sense, but trust me, it was pretty crazy. And we had some excitement back home as well:

A whole bunch of siding – I have yet to see where it came from – was blown all around our sidewalk. Fire department came by, yelled at Adrienne for trying to step out our front door (which was behind the ‘police line do not cross’). I guess the siding had hit some power lines. Continue reading for more pics.

Can’t you just hear the Copland tune?

We had another tasty dinner thanks to our Christmas gift from Derek and Heidi. We’ve still got some hot dogs and burgers left in our freezer. Tonight’s dinner was steak with a horseradish sauce, broccoli with cheese and baked potatoes with a sour cream/butter/cheese/roasted garlic topping. It was quite hearty, if not altogether healthy. We had a very early dinner (about 4:45 p.m.) so David could get back to the station for another late night at work. But the coming week should be a bit less hectic, thank goodness.
And we had a nice view out the back window to accompany dinner. A little snow!

David found it a little difficult to capture the snow in the picture, but it was coming down pretty hard for a bit and blowing all over the place. Of course, it’s stopped now. Argh.

This morning as I stepped out the door to go to work (the new job is going well, by the way) I noticed these white flakes falling from the sky. It took me a second to realize it was snowing since we’ve had so very little snow this season.
It was still snowing when I got off the train in the city, and I saw a lot of people using umbrellas. I wanted to say to these people, “listen, I know you may not recognize it because it’s been so long, but this snow, not rain!” Another of those odd New York customs I suppose. Alas, the snow had pretty much turned to rain by the time I arrived at my office 15 minutes later.
On the other side of the country at my sister’s house in Washington, they’ve got more snow than they know what to do with. They’ve got about 50 inches of snow, and it’s certainly piling up as it slides off their roof as demonstrated in these pictures taken from their driveway and inside the front door.

We haven’t gotten a real snowstorm yet this winter. But in Chicago…

(webcam shot, 11:50pm 1/31/08… word has it they’re calling for 10 inches of the white stuff)

This is the thought that crosses my head before I go to bed. Yeah, I know it’s probably even colder where you are. But still, it’s that dang ‘feels like’ temp in parenthesis on the Squeezebox that gets me as I pass by it.

About two weeks ago we got some snow, but it was short-lived and mushy, so it didn’t stick to the ground. Well, this morning I woke up to this:

Not too much of the white stuff, but the squeezebox tells me we’ll have snow and a wintry mix today. To get in the mood, I turned on the squeezebox, went to one of the internet radio categories, and tuned into one of the 41 (!) holiday channels. So I’ve got Perry Como and Nat King Cole and Manheim Steamroller and other classics playing. Pretty cool. And I was also inspired to whip up a little egg casserole – Mom’s basic recipe, but adding spinach, green onions and bacon on top. It’s smelling good!

The first couple days of summer have felt more like mid-spring, with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. As Mom would exclaim, “That’s some good sleepin’ weather!” So nice to leave the windows open (and luckily the street noise has been relatively quiet), and let the cool breeze come through. But for some of us, it does necessitate two blankets.

What’s the blanket forecast where you are?
