Sometimes I see how people accessorize and wonder what it reveals about their personality. Take, for instance, this large-headphone, gold-Casio-Databank-wearing woman I’ve seen twice on the train:
I remember saving $40 to purchase my plain-black-plastic banded (which was notorious for cracking and breaking) Databank. Those were the days. Could calculate, could store the phone numbers of my 50-closest friends (yeah, I don’t think I ever filled it), could store all my appointments… so cool, and yet agonizing to use. Since then I’ve moved on to a good old Timex Ironman, which pretty much stays on me 24/7, and well, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. In some ways, I guess the Timex – durable, reliable, just sporty enough, not too complicated – may be is a good reflection of me. Or maybe not, who knows. Anyway, what are you wearing? 🙂

My bracelet band on my Timex isn’t sloppy at all, watch never slides around. I suppose the all-plastic Timex is much lighter than a heavy Seiko. But I also don’t have the need to push the watch up my arm like you. I’ve tried both the expansion bands and ones that have links in them, and have nearly always found they snag and pinch my hairy arms! My watch’s countdown timer is very handy when monitoring one-hour parking meters. And baking cookies!

For a few hours at the beginning of Sundays I usually wear gold the Seiko analog watch Vicki gave me on our 25th anniversary 13 years ago. But other days during the week I wear the Seiko analog silver chronograph watch you kids gave me much more recently — I believe for Father’s day. Like you, David, it on me pretty much 24/7 with the above exception. This is my first watch on which I’ve kept the bracelet band (vs. expansion band). I’ve never really gotten used to the sloppiness of the bracelet band and would prefer a Spiroflex expansion band if it could be put on this watch, which it can’t. I use the stop-watch more often than I would have predicted.
