Family Photo

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

We’ve determined the tree needs to come down the next day or two, as it’s dropping needles on its own. So Adrienne suggests we take a quick photo with the cats. I’m somewhat embarrassed by the quality of it (out of focus, poor lighting etc.), but I hope you’ll enjoy nonetheless!

Memorial Day Weekend round up

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

To keep up with Little D, here are some snaps from our lazy weekend, which included non-productive house shopping, some grilling, biking and general lazying-around.

What does your watch say about you?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Sometimes I see how people accessorize and wonder what it reveals about their personality. Take, for instance, this large-headphone, gold-Casio-Databank-wearing woman I’ve seen twice on the train:

I remember saving $40 to purchase my plain-black-plastic banded (which was notorious for cracking and breaking) Databank. Those were the days. Could calculate, could store the phone numbers of my 50-closest friends (yeah, I don’t think I ever filled it), could store all my appointments… so cool, and yet agonizing to use. Since then I’ve moved on to a good old Timex Ironman, which pretty much stays on me 24/7, and well, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. In some ways, I guess the Timex – durable, reliable, just sporty enough, not too complicated – may be is a good reflection of me. Or maybe not, who knows. Anyway, what are you wearing? 🙂

Nature’s beauty sculpted in the city

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

There’s not much ‘natural beauty’ in our small corner of the world, but Mother Nature blew through a few days ago, leaving several inches of snow all around. I noticed this completely undisturbed creation while taking the trash out.

The snow was completely smooth, the pattern created by the airflow through slots in the table. Then, I noticed it was smiling at me!

The lengths we go

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I barely remember the brief family visit to NYC years ago, but I remember it feeling very dirty. It probably was, and seemed even more so to a niave young Midwesterner. I know the metropolis has been cleaned up significantly since, but it still surprises me to see the lengths we go to keep appearances up; to make things look authentic, historic, natural (for a city). There are crazy examples of the same but different thing happening in other contexts, but to see such an effort to hide cell phone antennas, still makes me pause:

Find the cell phone antennas on this historic NYC building!

I wonder what kind of radiation those people on the top floor are getting.

Video killed the… radio employee?

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I hope not, since this was my idea. Tonight is another broadcast in WBGO and NPR’s series from the Village Vanguard in NYC. I heard a set last night, and the music should be great. You can tune at the regular spots, but tonight’s twist is we’re adding video. Just a static shot in a dimly-lit room for now, but we hope it provides even more ‘added value’ as the marketers would say. Check it out tonight – 9pm EST.

Biggest moon in 15 years!

I still had to do a good bit of cropping on this capture.

From the top of the… World Trump Tower

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

I had the opportunity to go to the absolute top of the Trump World Tower this (very cold and very windy!) morning.

Click here to open a new window with the big(!) 7.2MB 360-degree panoramic pic.

And check Focus to the left for a couple more ground pics.
