Dan and Amie visit, day two (in pics)

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

After a very busy first day, we took a bit slower pace Saturday. After sleeping in a bit, we had some homemade bagels and fruit for breakfast. Then we got ourselves together and out the door for a visit to Lady Liberty. Took the scenic route through Battery Park City and along the Hudson waterline, then found a very long line – perhaps an hour’s wait or more – just to purchase tickets for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. As we got in line, two gentlemen offered us three tickets (Adrienne had not joined us) for $20. I looked at them and found them to be genuine, so the exchange was made. Normally we’d pay $12 per ticket, and of course have to wait in line! After maybe 30 minutes in line for the ferry, we were on our way to Liberty Island.

Dan and Amie visit, day one (in pics)

Amie got in just fine, Dan (who was already in town for work and stayed the previous night) and I went to the airport to get her. After dropping stuff off, we went into the city, Downtown. Grabbed some lunch at a favorite Mediterranean place and took it to go to eat at City Hall Park:

City Hall Park Visit

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Yesterday I had some browsing to do at J&R in downtown Manhattan, so I pulled Adrienne along with. J&R is right across from City Hall and the adjacent park of the same name. It’s really quite beautiful, and I think it’s sometimes easy to overlook these little places. Here’s a quick slide show of some pics we took (I’m sure you’ll spot the HDR pic I made).

Only in NYC

There’s a group here called Improv Everywhere. I first heard of them during their annual No Pants Subway Ride – where hundreds of ‘agents’ get on the subway with no pants, and eventually someone comes around selling (their own) pants. As you might expect, it gets interesting responses from unsuspecting subway riders.

Anyway, their latest effort was getting more than 200 people at Grand Central Terminal to, at the same time, suddenly freeze. Then, after 5 minutes, they’d go about their business, as though nothing happened. Check out the video:
